Why I Chose Grace Education Institute: A Mother’s Journey to Create Change

When I think about why I started working with Grace Education Institute, my “why” is clear: my kids, and every child who deserves more from the education system than what they’re currently getting.

I’m a mom of three. I grew up in a public school district that had all the basics covered—safe buildings, updated books, a variety of programs, teachers who had the time and resources to support us. At the time, I didn’t realize how much of a privilege that was. I just assumed that’s what every student received when they went to school.

Fast forward to today, and my kids are enrolled in an inner-city public charter school. While the educators there care deeply, the resources just aren’t the same. Things I took for granted in my own education are not always available to them. Sometimes it feels like my children, and so many others, are being asked to succeed while starting a few steps behind.

As a psychiatric nurse, I also see the other side of this. I’ve cared for young people whose mental health struggles were compounded by the fact that their schools didn’t have the resources to support them. I’ve seen the impact of a system that too often overlooks kids who need the most help. And I’ve felt the heartbreak of knowing these students have so much potential, but not nearly enough opportunities.

That’s what made something crystal clear to me: education should not be a privilege, it should be a right.

Why Grace Education Institute Matters to Me

Grace Education Institute is more than an organization to me—it’s a mission I carry in my heart every single day. I don’t want to stand by while children are left behind because of where they live or what resources their schools lack.

Through Grace Education Institute, I’ve found a way to fight for change. We’re building bridges between families, educators, and communities to create opportunities where they don’t currently exist. We’re advocating for equity in education—not just on paper, but in real classrooms where real children’s lives are being shaped.

My Passion for Change

At the core, my passion comes from being a mom who wants better for her kids—and knowing that “better” shouldn’t only be available to families in certain zip codes. Every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and prepared for the future.

I believe that when we come together as parents, educators, and community members, we can change the story for our children. I want my kids, and yours, to grow up in a world where their dreams aren’t limited by their school’s budget or the neighborhood they live in.

That’s why I’m here. That’s why I pour myself into this work. Because education isn’t just about academics—it’s about dignity, opportunity, and the belief that every child has a right to thrive.

A Personal Invitation

My journey with Grace Education Institute started as a mom wanting something better for her children. It’s grown into a mission to make sure every child has the same chance at success that I once did.

If you feel the same way—if you’ve ever wished for more for your child, your students, or your community—I invite you to join us. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or neighbor, your voice matters. Together, we can build a system where education truly belongs to everyone.

Because change doesn’t happen on its own—it happens when we decide to make it. And I refuse to stop until every child, in every community, has the right to a quality education.
